[21] أَم ءاتَينٰهُم كِتٰبًا مِن قَبلِهِ فَهُم بِهِ مُستَمسِكونَ
[21] আমি কি তাদেরকে কোরআনের পূর্বে কোন কিতাব দিয়েছি, অতঃপর তারা তাকে আঁকড়ে রেখেছে?
[21] Or have We given them any Book before this (the Qur’ân), to which they are holding fast?

[22] بَل قالوا إِنّا وَجَدنا ءاباءَنا عَلىٰ أُمَّةٍ وَإِنّا عَلىٰ ءاثٰرِهِم مُهتَدونَ
[22] বরং তারা বলে, আমরা আমাদের পূর্বপুরুষদেরকে পেয়েছি এক পথের পথিক এবং আমরা তাদেরই পদাংক অনুসরণ করে পথপ্রাপ্ত।
[22] Nay! They say: “We found our fathers following a certain way and religion, and we guide ourselves by their footsteps.”

[23] وَكَذٰلِكَ ما أَرسَلنا مِن قَبلِكَ فى قَريَةٍ مِن نَذيرٍ إِلّا قالَ مُترَفوها إِنّا وَجَدنا ءاباءَنا عَلىٰ أُمَّةٍ وَإِنّا عَلىٰ ءاثٰرِهِم مُقتَدونَ
[23] এমনিভাবে আপনার পূর্বে আমি যখন কোন জনপদে কোন সতর্ককারী প্রেরণ করেছি, তখনই তাদের বিত্তশালীরা বলেছে, আমরা আমাদের পূর্বপুরুষদেরকে পেয়েছি এক পথের পথিক এবং আমরা তাদেরই পদাংক অনুসরণ করে চলছি।
[23] And similarly, We sent not a warner before you (O Muhammad SAW) to any town (people) but the luxurious ones among them said: “We found our fathers following a certain way and religion, and we will indeed follow their footsteps.”

[24] ۞ قٰلَ أَوَلَو جِئتُكُم بِأَهدىٰ مِمّا وَجَدتُم عَلَيهِ ءاباءَكُم ۖ قالوا إِنّا بِما أُرسِلتُم بِهِ كٰفِرونَ
[24] সে বলত, তোমরা তোমাদের পূর্বপুরুষদেরকে যে বিষয়ের উপর পেয়েছ, আমি যদি তদপেক্ষা উত্তম বিষয় নিয়ে তোমাদের কাছে এসে থাকি, তবুও কি তোমরা তাই বলবে? তারা বলত তোমরা যে বিষয়সহ প্রেরিত হয়েছ, তা আমরা মানব না।
[24] (The warner) said: “Even if I bring you better guidance than that which you found your fathers following?” They said: “Verily, We disbelieve in that with which you have been sent.”

[25] فَانتَقَمنا مِنهُم ۖ فَانظُر كَيفَ كانَ عٰقِبَةُ المُكَذِّبينَ
[25] অতঃপর আমি তাদের কাছ থেকে প্রতিশোধ নিয়েছি। অতএব দেখুন, মিথ্যারোপকারীদের পরিণাম কিরূপ হয়েছে।
[25] So We took revenge of them, then see what was the end of those who denied (Islâmic Monotheism).

[26] وَإِذ قالَ إِبرٰهيمُ لِأَبيهِ وَقَومِهِ إِنَّنى بَراءٌ مِمّا تَعبُدونَ
[26] যখন ইব্রাহীম তার পিতা ও সম্প্রদায়কে বলল, তোমরা যাদের পূজা কর, তাদের সাথে আমার কোন সম্পর্ক নেই।
[26] And (remember) when Ibrahîm (Abraham) said to his father and his people: “Verily, I am innocent of what you worship,

[27] إِلَّا الَّذى فَطَرَنى فَإِنَّهُ سَيَهدينِ
[27] তবে আমার সম্পর্ক তাঁর সাথে যিনি আমাকে সৃষ্টি করেছেন। অতএব, তিনিই আমাকে সৎপথ প্রদর্শন করবেন।
[27] “Except Him (i.e. but Allâh Alone I worship none) Who did create me, and verily, He will guide me.”

[28] وَجَعَلَها كَلِمَةً باقِيَةً فى عَقِبِهِ لَعَلَّهُم يَرجِعونَ
[28] এ কথাটিকে সে অক্ষয় বাণীরূপে তার সন্তানদের মধ্যে রেখে গেছে, যাতে তারা আল্লাহর দিকেই আকৃষ্ট থাকে।
[28] And he made it [i.e. Lâ ilâha ill-allâh (none has the right to be worshipped but Allâh Alone)] a Word lasting among his offspring, that they may turn back (i.e. to repent to Allâh or receive admonition).

[29] بَل مَتَّعتُ هٰؤُلاءِ وَءاباءَهُم حَتّىٰ جاءَهُمُ الحَقُّ وَرَسولٌ مُبينٌ
[29] পরন্ত আমিই এদেরকে ও এদের পূর্বপুরুষদেরকে জীবনোপভোগ করতে দিয়েছি, অবশেষে তাদের কাছে সত্য ও স্পষ্ট বর্ণনাকারী রসূল আগমন করেছে।
[29] Nay, but I gave (the good things of this life) to these (polytheists) and their fathers to enjoy, till there came to them the truth (the Qur’ân), and a Messenger (Muhammad SAW) making things clear.

[30] وَلَمّا جاءَهُمُ الحَقُّ قالوا هٰذا سِحرٌ وَإِنّا بِهِ كٰفِرونَ
[30] যখন সত্য তাদের কাছে আগমন করল, তখন তারা বলল, এটা যাদু, আমরা একে মানি না।
[30] And when the truth (this Qur’ân) came to them, they (the disbelievers in this Qur’ân) said: “This is magic, and we disbelieve therein.”

[31] وَقالوا لَولا نُزِّلَ هٰذَا القُرءانُ عَلىٰ رَجُلٍ مِنَ القَريَتَينِ عَظيمٍ
[31] তারা বলে, কোরআন কেন দুই জনপদের কোন প্রধান ব্যক্তির উপর অবতীর্ণ হল না?
[31] And they say: “Why is not this Qur’ân sent down to some great man of the two towns (Makkah and Tâ’if)?”

[32] أَهُم يَقسِمونَ رَحمَتَ رَبِّكَ ۚ نَحنُ قَسَمنا بَينَهُم مَعيشَتَهُم فِى الحَيوٰةِ الدُّنيا ۚ وَرَفَعنا بَعضَهُم فَوقَ بَعضٍ دَرَجٰتٍ لِيَتَّخِذَ بَعضُهُم بَعضًا سُخرِيًّا ۗ وَرَحمَتُ رَبِّكَ خَيرٌ مِمّا يَجمَعونَ
[32] তারা কি আপনার পালনকর্তার রহমত বন্টন করে? আমি তাদের মধ্যে তাদের জীবিকা বন্টন করেছি পার্থিব জীবনে এবং একের মর্যাদাকে অপরের উপর উন্নীত করেছি, যাতে একে অপরকে সেবক রূপে গ্রহণ করে। তারা যা সঞ্চয় করে, আপনার পালনকর্তার রহমত তদপেক্ষা উত্তম।
[32] Is it they who would portion out the Mercy of your Lord? It is We Who portion out between them their livelihood in this world, and We raised some of them above others in ranks, so that some may employ others in their work. But the Mercy (Paradise) of your Lord (O Muhammad SAW) is better than the (wealth of this world) which they amass.

[33] وَلَولا أَن يَكونَ النّاسُ أُمَّةً وٰحِدَةً لَجَعَلنا لِمَن يَكفُرُ بِالرَّحمٰنِ لِبُيوتِهِم سُقُفًا مِن فِضَّةٍ وَمَعارِجَ عَلَيها يَظهَرونَ
[33] যদি সব মানুষের এক মতাবলম্বী হয়ে যাওয়ার আশংকা না থাকত, তবে যারা দয়াময় আল্লাহকে অস্বীকার করে আমি তাদেরকে দিতাম তাদের গৃহের জন্যে রৌপ্য নির্মিত ছাদ ও সিঁড়ি, যার উপর তারা চড়ত।
[33] And were it not that all mankind would have become of one community (all disbelievers, desiring worldly life only), We would have provided for those who disbelieve in the Most Gracious (Allâh), silver roofs for their houses, and elevators whereby they ascend,

[34] وَلِبُيوتِهِم أَبوٰبًا وَسُرُرًا عَلَيها يَتَّكِـٔونَ
[34] এবং তাদের গৃহের জন্যে দরজা দিতাম এবং পালংক দিতাম যাতে তারা হেলান দিয়ে বসত।
[34] And for their houses, doors (of silver), and thrones (of silver) on which they could recline,

[35] وَزُخرُفًا ۚ وَإِن كُلُّ ذٰلِكَ لَمّا مَتٰعُ الحَيوٰةِ الدُّنيا ۚ وَالءاخِرَةُ عِندَ رَبِّكَ لِلمُتَّقينَ
[35] এবং স্বর্ণনির্মিতও দিতাম। এগুলো সবই তো পার্থিব জীবনের ভোগ সামগ্রী মাত্র। আর পরকাল আপনার পালনকর্তার কাছে তাঁদের জন্যেই যারা ভয় করে।
[35] And adornments of gold. Yet all this (i.e. the roofs, doors, stairs, elevators, thrones of their houses) would have been nothing but an enjoyment of this world. And the Hereafter with your Lord is (only) for the Muttaqûn.

[36] وَمَن يَعشُ عَن ذِكرِ الرَّحمٰنِ نُقَيِّض لَهُ شَيطٰنًا فَهُوَ لَهُ قَرينٌ
[36] যে ব্যক্তি দয়াময় আল্লাহর স্মরণ থেকে চোখ ফিরিয়ে নেয়, আমি তার জন্যে এক শয়তান নিয়োজিত করে দেই, অতঃপর সে-ই হয় তার সঙ্গী।
[36] And whosoever turns away blindly from the remembrance of the Most Gracious (Allâh) (i.e. this Qur’ân and worship of Allâh), We appoint for him Shaitân (Satan devil) to be a Qarîn (a intimate companion) to him.

[37] وَإِنَّهُم لَيَصُدّونَهُم عَنِ السَّبيلِ وَيَحسَبونَ أَنَّهُم مُهتَدونَ
[37] শয়তানরাই মানুষকে সৎপথে বাধা দান করে, আর মানুষ মনে করে যে, তারা সৎপথে রয়েছে।
[37] And verily, they (Satans / devils) hinder them from the Path (of Allâh), but they think that they are guided aright!

[38] حَتّىٰ إِذا جاءَنا قالَ يٰلَيتَ بَينى وَبَينَكَ بُعدَ المَشرِقَينِ فَبِئسَ القَرينُ
[38] অবশেষে যখন সে আমার কাছে আসবে, তখন সে শয়তানকে বলবে, হায়, আমার ও তোমার মধ্যে যদি পূর্ব-পশ্চিমের দূরত্ব থাকত। কত হীন সঙ্গী সে।
[38] Till, when (such a one) comes to Us, he says [to his Qarîn (Satan / devil companion)] “Would that between me and you were the distance of the two easts (or the east and west)” a worst (type of) companion (indeed)!

[39] وَلَن يَنفَعَكُمُ اليَومَ إِذ ظَلَمتُم أَنَّكُم فِى العَذابِ مُشتَرِكونَ
[39] তোমরা যখন কুফর করছিলে, তখন তোমাদের আজকের আযাবে শরীক হওয়া কোন কাজে আসবে না।
[39] It will profit you not this Day (O you who turn away from Allâh’s remembrance and His worship) as you did wrong, (and) that you will be sharers (you and your Qarîn) in the punishment.

[40] أَفَأَنتَ تُسمِعُ الصُّمَّ أَو تَهدِى العُمىَ وَمَن كانَ فى ضَلٰلٍ مُبينٍ
[40] আপনি কি বধিরকে শোনাতে পারবেন? অথবা যে অন্ধ ও যে স্পষ্ট পথ ভ্রষ্টতায় লিপ্ত, তাকে পথ প্রদর্শণ করতে পারবেন?
[40] Can you (O Muhammad SAW) make the deaf to hear, or can you guide the blind or him who is in manifest error?
