[12] مَنّاعٍ لِلخَيرِ مُعتَدٍ أَثيمٍ
[12] যে ভাল কাজে বাধা দেয়, সে সীমালংঘন করে, সে পাপিষ্ঠ,
[12] Hinderer of the good, transgressor, sinful,

[13] عُتُلٍّ بَعدَ ذٰلِكَ زَنيمٍ
[13] কঠোর স্বভাব, তদুপরি কুখ্যাত;
[13] Cruel, and moreover baseborn (of illegitimate birth).

[14] أَن كانَ ذا مالٍ وَبَنينَ
[14] এ কারণে যে, সে ধন-সম্পদ ও সন্তান সন্ততির অধিকারী।
[14] (He was so) because he had wealth and children.

[15] إِذا تُتلىٰ عَلَيهِ ءايٰتُنا قالَ أَسٰطيرُ الأَوَّلينَ
[15] তার কাছে আমার আয়াত পাঠ করা হলে সে বলে; সেকালের উপকথা।
[15] When Our Verses (of the Qur’ân) are recited to him, he says: “Tales of the men of old!”

[16] سَنَسِمُهُ عَلَى الخُرطومِ
[16] আমি তার নাসিকা দাগিয়ে দিব।
[16] We shall brand him on the snout (nose)!

[17] إِنّا بَلَونٰهُم كَما بَلَونا أَصحٰبَ الجَنَّةِ إِذ أَقسَموا لَيَصرِمُنَّها مُصبِحينَ
[17] আমি তাদেরকে পরীক্ষা করেছি, যেমন পরীক্ষা করেছি উদ্যানওয়ালাদের, যখন তারা শপথ করেছিল যে, সকালে বাগানের ফল আহরণ করবে,
[17] Verily, We have tried them as We tried the people of the garden, when they swore to pluck the fruits of the (garden) in the morning.

[18] وَلا يَستَثنونَ
[18] ইনশাআল্লাহ না বলে।
[18] Without saying: Inshâ’ Allâh (If Allâh wills).

[19] فَطافَ عَلَيها طائِفٌ مِن رَبِّكَ وَهُم نائِمونَ
[19] অতঃপর আপনার পালনকর্তার পক্ষ থেকে বাগানে এক বিপদ এসে পতিত হলো। যখন তারা নিদ্রিত ছিল।
[19] Then there passed by on the (garden) visitation (fire) from your Lord at night and burnt it while they were asleep.

[20] فَأَصبَحَت كَالصَّريمِ
[20] ফলে সকাল পর্যন্ত হয়ে গেল ছিন্নবিচ্ছিন্ন তৃণসম।
[20] So the (garden) became black by the morning, like a pitch dark night (in complete ruins).

[21] فَتَنادَوا مُصبِحينَ
[21] সকালে তারা একে অপরকে ডেকে বলল,
[21] Then they called out one to another as soon as the morning broke,

[22] أَنِ اغدوا عَلىٰ حَرثِكُم إِن كُنتُم صٰرِمينَ
[22] তোমরা যদি ফল আহরণ করতে চাও, তবে সকাল সকাল ক্ষেতে চল।
[22] Saying: “Go to your tilth in the morning, if you would pluck the fruits.”

[23] فَانطَلَقوا وَهُم يَتَخٰفَتونَ
[23] অতঃপর তারা চলল ফিসফিস করে কথা বলতে বলতে,
[23] So they departed, conversing in secret low tones (saying),

[24] أَن لا يَدخُلَنَّهَا اليَومَ عَلَيكُم مِسكينٌ
[24] অদ্য যেন কোন মিসকীন ব্যক্তি তোমাদের কাছে বাগানে প্রবেশ করতে না পারে।
[24] No Miskîn (poor man) shall enter upon you into it today.

[25] وَغَدَوا عَلىٰ حَردٍ قٰدِرينَ
[25] তারা সকালে লাফিয়ে লাফিয়ে সজোরে রওয়ানা হল।
[25] And they went in the morning with strong intention, thinking that they have power (to prevent the poor taking anything of the fruits therefrom).

[26] فَلَمّا رَأَوها قالوا إِنّا لَضالّونَ
[26] অতঃপর যখন তারা বাগান দেখল, তখন বললঃ আমরা তো পথ ভূলে গেছি।
[26] But when they saw the (garden), they said: “Verily, we have gone astray,”

[27] بَل نَحنُ مَحرومونَ
[27] বরং আমরা তো কপালপোড়া,
[27] (Then they said): “Nay! Indeed we are deprived of (the fruits)!”

[28] قالَ أَوسَطُهُم أَلَم أَقُل لَكُم لَولا تُسَبِّحونَ
[28] তাদের উত্তম ব্যক্তি বললঃ আমি কি তোমাদেরকে বলিনি? এখনও তোমরা আল্লাহ তা’আলার পবিত্রতা বর্ণনা করছো না কেন?
[28] The best among them said: “Did I not tell you: why say you not: Inshâ’ Allâh (If Allâh wills).”

[29] قالوا سُبحٰنَ رَبِّنا إِنّا كُنّا ظٰلِمينَ
[29] তারা বললঃ আমরা আমাদের পালনকর্তার পবিত্রতা ঘোষণা করছি, নিশ্চিতই আমরা সীমালংঘনকারী ছিলাম।
[29] They said: “Glory to Our Lord! Verily, we have been Zâlimûn (wrong-doers).”

[30] فَأَقبَلَ بَعضُهُم عَلىٰ بَعضٍ يَتَلٰوَمونَ
[30] অতঃপর তারা একে অপরকে ভৎর্সনা করতে লাগল।
[30] Then they turned, one against another, blaming.

[31] قالوا يٰوَيلَنا إِنّا كُنّا طٰغينَ
[31] তারা বললঃ হায়! দুর্ভোগ আমাদের আমরা ছিলাম সীমাতিক্রমকারী।
[31] They said: “Woe to us! Verily, we were Tâghûn (transgressors and disobedient).
